Terms of use

What Cosmose provides, what it expects from you, how content is moderated and what ends access. By entering Cosmose you accept these terms and the community rules, which are part of them.

Version 2026-10-07 · Updated on 2026-10-07 · The French version is authoritative.

1. Purpose and acceptance

These terms govern the use of the Cosmose service, available at cosmose.app and its subdomains, published by Corentin Deleuse, sole proprietor (entrepreneur individuel, EI) trading as Aëria (“Cosmose”, “we”). The legal notice identifies the publisher, the host and the points of contact.

You accept these terms by ticking the box provided at entry, whether for a temporary account or a Cosmose account. The accepted version and the date of acceptance are recorded with your account. The community rules and the privacy policy complete these terms; in case of contradiction, these terms prevail over the rules, and the privacy policy prevails for everything concerning your personal data.

The French version of these terms is authoritative. The English version is provided for convenience.

2. Who may use Cosmose

Cosmose is reserved for people aged eighteen or over. You declare it when entering; a Cosmose account also gives its date of birth. Sharing or viewing photos and videos, broadcasting or watching a live require an age verification by an independent provider, AgeVerif, as described in the privacy policy. An account used by a minor is closed as soon as Cosmose learns of it.

Cosmose is designed for people located in France: the town is chosen from the official register of French municipalities. You use the service under your own responsibility with regard to the laws that apply to you.

3. The service

Cosmose lets adults see who is connected near the town they chose, talk privately and in rooms, publish local notices (“Around me”) and, when the feature is open, broadcast and watch video lives. Cosmose puts people in touch; it is party to no relationship, meeting or transaction between them.

Cosmose is currently offered as a beta: features may appear, change or disappear, and defects are possible. We inform you of important changes to these terms as described in section 13.

4. Accounts

Temporary account

A temporary account opens with a nickname, a gender, a declared age, a town and, if you wish, what you are looking for; no e-mail address is asked for. It lives with your browser’s session: after thirty days without activity, or if you sign out, it can no longer be found. A temporary account can neither add photos, nor send photos or videos, nor publish in “Around me”, nor open a room. It can become a Cosmose account at any time by adding an e-mail address or a Google account and a date of birth; conversations, rooms and age verification are kept.

Cosmose account

A Cosmose account opens with an e-mail address verified by a code, or with a Google account, and a date of birth. A password of at least twelve characters can be set; entering with a code sent to the address always remains possible. Disposable e-mail addresses are refused.

One account per person, under your responsibility

  • An account is personal. You answer for everything done with it, and you keep your means of access to yourself.
  • You do not create several accounts to get around a block, a restriction or a closure (rule R7).
  • If you think your account is being used by someone else, change your password (which closes every session) and write to us.
  • You can see your open sessions and close them from Settings.

Inactive accounts

A Cosmose account with no sign-in for two years is deleted, after a warning e-mail sent thirty days before. A temporary account with no session for one year is deleted without warning, since it has no address.

5. The community rules

The community rules, numbered R1 to R12, are an integral part of these terms. They describe what is allowed and forbidden, and the scale of measures Cosmose may take. Any restriction on the use of the service rests either on these rules or on the law; the notice you receive says which.

6. Your content

Everything you write, upload or broadcast on Cosmose (nickname, profile, messages, photos, videos, posts, comments, lives) remains yours and is your responsibility. You warrant that you hold the necessary rights and permissions, in particular the agreement of the people who appear in an image.

For the service to work, you grant Cosmose, for as long as your content is on the service, a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, technically adapt (resizing, re-encoding, blurring, removal of metadata) and display it to the people you address it to. Cosmose does not sell your content, does not use it for advertising and does not exploit it outside the service.

You also allow Cosmose to compare each photo and video against the fingerprints of already known child sexual abuse material, before publication and again afterwards, and to keep as evidence, beyond the deletion of your account, what is recognised or reported, for as long as moderation and procedures require (section 8 and the privacy policy).

The messages you send privately also belong to the conversation of the person who receives them: deleting your account does not remove them from their conversation, where they appear under a deleted account; the photos and videos you had sent are, however, removed.

7. Photos, videos, lives and automated tools

Photos and videos go through automatic processing before they are visible: format check, removal of metadata (including position), creation of resized versions, re-encoding of videos, and comparison against the fingerprints of known abuse material kept by Shield, a service of the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Project Arachnid). This automated check does not read your conversations and only recognises content already identified as illegal; it does not detect new content. Recognised content is never published: it is quarantined, kept as evidence and submitted to the team, which decides. Published content is checked again as that database grows.

A photo or video received in a private conversation or in a room arrives blurred; the person receiving it chooses to reveal it, which requires an age verification. Uploads are not possible from the exit nodes of the Tor network.

Lives are transmitted by a specialised provider (LiveKit) and are not recorded by Cosmose. A live can be interrupted at any time by moderation, by the closing of the room or the conversation, or when concurring reports raise the fear that a minor is present.

Apart from these checks, Cosmose has no general obligation to monitor content and does not examine it before publication. Moderation decisions are taken by people.

8. Reporting, moderation and appeals

Reporting content

Anyone, with or without an account, can report to Cosmose content they consider illegal or contrary to the rules. From the app, the “…” menu of each profile, message, photo, video, room, post, comment or live opens a report, with a reason and an explanation. Without an account, the Report content form asks where the content is, why it would be illegal, your name and e-mail address (except when reporting content involving a minor, where they are optional) and a good-faith statement.

An acknowledgement of receipt is sent to you when you left an e-mail address. Once the case is handled, you are told of the outcome: action taken or not, without details about the person concerned. Reports are confidential: the reported person never learns who reported them.

How Cosmose handles reports

Every report opens or joins a case, examined by a person on the moderation team, in order of severity then of age. Reports concerning a minor and content recognised by the automated check are handled first. Cosmose undertakes to handle reports diligently, objectively and proportionately, without guaranteeing a delay. The reported content is copied as evidence at the time of the report; for a room, the last fifty messages visible to the reporting person are copied too.

When a report raises the fear that a minor is involved, the content concerned is put out of everyone’s reach as a precaution, before any decision, and only comes back if a competent authority finds it lawful.

Possible measures

Depending on severity, repetition and context: a warning; removal of the content; a restriction on sending messages, photos and videos or lives, for a set period or until further notice; the end of a live; the disabling of a room; the obligation to verify one’s age again; suspension of the account for up to one year; permanent closure of the account, with, where relevant, the removal of everything it published. A suspended or closed account loses its sessions at once and can no longer enter. The scale is detailed in the community rules.

You are told of decisions

Every decision that restricts your use of the service is notified to you, in the app and by e-mail if your account has an address, at the latest when it takes effect. The notice states the measure and its duration, the content concerned, the facts and circumstances relied on, whether an automated tool took part in the detection, the community rule or legal provision applied, and the means of contesting. For a temporary account, which has no address, the notice can be read in the app for as long as the account can enter.

Contesting a decision

You can contest each decision once, within one hundred and eighty days of the notice, from the app or from the link in the e-mail. Your appeal is examined by a lead of the moderation team other than the person who took the decision, who answers you. If the decision is reversed, the content is restored or the sanction lifted. This internal appeal does not limit your right to go to the competent courts.

Abusive reports

Manifestly unfounded reports, or reports repeated to harm a person, fall under rule R12 and may lead to the measures of section 8. The number of reports sent per hour is limited.

Authorities

Cosmose informs the competent authorities of illegal content reported to it where the law requires, in particular for content involving minors, and carries out the decisions of judicial and administrative authorities, including account suspensions ordered by a court. The point of contact for authorities is given in the legal notice.

Blocking

Independently of any moderation, you can block a person from their card: you disappear for each other everywhere on Cosmose, at once and without them being told. You can unblock at any time.

9. Premium and beta

Some features are reserved for Premium: opening up to three rooms, holding more active posts, and the reserved lives of rooms. During the beta, Premium is on us for everyone; no payment is asked for and no payment details are collected. If a paid offer is ever proposed, it will be subject to specific terms presented before any subscription, with the information and rights provided by the French Consumer Code. When Premium ends, open rooms are suspended, not deleted: what was said there remains and they reopen if Premium returns.

10. Availability, changes and liability

Cosmose is provided as is, without any guarantee of continuous availability. The service may be interrupted for maintenance, in case of failure, or for security reasons; we strive to limit such interruptions. Features may change. Cosmose guarantees no result: neither a meeting, nor an answer, nor the accuracy of what other members say about themselves.

Content published by members is published under their sole responsibility. Cosmose, as a hosting provider, is liable for it only under the conditions provided by law, and acts promptly when it becomes aware of illegal content. Meeting a person met on Cosmose is a matter for your judgement: take the usual precautions, and report to us any behaviour contrary to the rules.

Within the limits permitted by law, Cosmose is not liable for indirect damage, and its liability towards you can only be engaged for direct damage resulting from a breach attributable to it. Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law grants you as a consumer, nor Cosmose’s liability in case of gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

11. End of access

By you

You can stop using Cosmose at any time and delete your account from Settings › Data and account. Deletion is immediate: your address, password, Google link, profile and photos are erased, your posts, comments and rooms deleted (and purged within thirty days), your sessions closed. What is kept, and why, is described in the privacy policy. A temporary account is deleted the same way.

By Cosmose

Cosmose may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, the community rules or the law, following the procedure and with the remedies of section 8. For the most serious facts, closure may occur without prior warning. Cosmose may also close an inactive account (section 4) or to carry out a decision of an authority.

End of the service

Should Cosmose cease its activity, you would be informed with reasonable notice, except in case of force majeure or legal obligation, to let you export your data.

12. Personal data

What Cosmose does with your data, why, for how long, with which providers and what your rights are is described in the privacy policy. It also lists the cookies used: no advertising tracker, no audience measurement.

13. Changes to these terms

These terms carry a version (2026-10-07) and a date. We may change them to reflect a change in the service, the law or our practices. An important change is shown to you the next time you enter, with a summary of what changes, and you are asked to accept it to keep using the service; if you refuse, you can delete your account. Previous versions remain available on request. A minor change (correction, clarification, formatting) does not require a new acceptance.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. If you reside in another Member State of the European Union, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer-protection provisions of your country of residence. In case of a dispute, we invite you to write to us first; failing an amicable solution, the competent courts are those designated by law.

15. Contacting us

For any question about these terms, to report a problem or to lodge an appeal: from the app, “Write to us” (account menu, Settings › Help, or the footer); by e-mail, support@cosmose.app. This point of contact answers to people, not only to automated tools. Authorities have a separate point of contact, given in the legal notice.
